I grew up in southern California and food trucks were a usual sight on the streets in the morning and during lunch. If you haven’t noticed that food trucks have come to Seattle, and everywhere else for that matter, you are definitely missing out. The food trucks of today are not the food trucks that I remember. From simple menus that include a hodgepodge of items to gourmet menus that specialize in vegan, all organic foods made with local ingredients, there is a truck for every craving or situation. Food trucks are a great way to incorporate a menagerie of meaning. You can pay homage to your heritage by serving appetizers instead of passed hors d’oeuvre if the venue permits, or end the evening with a desert food truck, a truck serving sliders and milkshakes or anything your hear desires. The choices are limitless and I had the opportunity to ask two of my favorite food trucks about catering to special events throughout the area.
Derrick Ellis from Lumpia World took time out of his busy schedule to share his thoughts on food trucks for events/weddings. “Food Trucks are AMAZING for Weddings, because it adds a new dimension to the reception. I remember seeing a photo of the Skillet Food Truck that catered a wedding. I thought to myself; wow what a very neat idea. At that point, we decided that we wanted to offer the same service. Presently, there are on average about 1-2 emails I see coming from Roaming Hunger that want Food Trucks at their wedding. Washington is such a beautiful place. When the weather is nice, IT IS NICE!!! So having a Food Truck onsite provides a wonderful outdoor food experience that plays right into the outdoor or even indoor reception. It’s a wonderful way to get out of the normal structure of a reception ceremony. The guests absolutely love it!!!!! We receive great feedback regarding our food, service, and fun staff.”
Diane Skwiercz from Sweet Treats, Home to the Original and Only “Build your Own Ice Cream Sandwich” and other amazing deserts including made from scratch ice cream that is out of this world. When asked about her thoughts on of catering special events/weddings, this is what she had to say. “Yes, people love our services and treats. Our most popular item at any event is build your own ice cream cookie sandwich. It’s interactive, fun and unique! Plus, everything we make is made from scratch. I think my most memorable moments are when guests have no clue and they are expecting cake. So pretty much every wedding!”
It sounds to me that our amazing food truck owners and operators have just as much fun providing out-of-the-box custom food to events/weddings as much as the guests do at partaking in the delicious concoctions that are handed out at said events.
Muse Event Planning and Production thanks Diane from Sweet Treats and Derrick Ellis from Lumpia World for their input for this posting and you can find them by their links above or on the Seattle Food Truck website.
